IN THE PALACE

Review of the history of the Palace

Jaunmoku Palace was built at the beginning of the 20th century, according to the most significant trends in technology, architecture and art of that time as a hunting lodge for the Mayor of Riga, George Armitstead.

During the visit to the museum, the lady of the Palace will tell you about the expositions of the Palace’s history and Art Nouveau interior on the first floor of the Palace, as well as demonstrate the interactive expositions of the Forest Museum on the second floor.

At the end of the tour, a wide view over the nearby hills will open up from the 20 m high Palace tower.

Audio guide

An audio guide will be a good solution if you want to walk around the museum of Jaunmoku Palace alone. During the walk, there is a feeling that the first owner of the Palace, the former Mayor of Riga George Armitstead, is greeting you and showing you around the rooms of the Palace. The texts in Latvian are narrated by actor Jānis Skanis.

In the 40-minute story (available in Latvian, Russian, English and Lithuanian) you can get to know the history of the Palace, the families of the owners and feel the atmosphere of the Palace at the beginning of the 20th century.

The price of the audio guide does not include museum entrance tickets; they must be purchased separately.

English tea afternoon

Enjoy pleasant conversations in one of the romantic rooms of the Palace, slowly sipping tea and tasting traditional English snacks. Learn English tea drinking etiquette and its subtleties, find out more about the origin and development of this tradition. Before the programme – a brief insight into the history of Jaunmoku Palace and its first owners – the Armitsted family.

The programme has a limited number of participants up to 15 people.

Day of Welfare

The Collective Recreation and Team Building Programme is guided by the motive of “feeling well at work” and “feeling well in life”. It is a time for the team to relax and experience positive emotions, as well as promote their own and their team’s self-development.

By getting to know the palace and the achievements of the Armitstead family in the territory of Latvia, the team will overcome challenges together, have fun, develop communication and cooperation skills. Solving different situations creates lasting values for the future work of the team. 

Each team can tailor the programme to their interests and goals, whether for team building or relaxation. 

The minimum number of participants is 10. The programme can also be adapted for a larger number of participants or as part of an event. The duration is approximately 2.5 hours.

In addition to the programme, there is an option to organise coffee breaks, hire rooms for training or other events.

It is available based on prior reservation daily from 9:00-17:00, outside office hours based on prior arrangement and at an extra cost.

Programme for newly-weds

On the most beautiful day – Wedding Day, we offer a tour of the Palace rooms to the newly-weds and a small group of their guests, accompanied by the lady of the Palace who will get you to do various tasks to strengthen and explore your union.

As part of the tour, we invite the couple to make their own coin of happiness. If the couple manages to get it – the young couple is compatible, and the married life will be full of happiness and harmony… as told by the old scriptures of the Palace.

Orienteering in the Palace or park

In order to get to know the Palace, its rooms and the objects within it better, it is possible to find specific objects in the Palace according to separate pieces of photographs and determine their location. Orienteering in the park, using the park plan and a small description of the object, it must be found in nature; and the given task must be completed!

Take a night walk and see how the Palace looks at night! Is it the same as during the day? Enjoy a magical walk around the 120-year-old Palace!

Escape room “Black Stories of the Green Forest”

In the basement of Jaunmoku Palace Dairy House there is an escape room “Black Stories of the Green Forest”. Entering the Beast’s Cave, the participants of the game solve 7 tasks to save the forest inhabitants trapped in the man-made waste and get out of the cave themselves. It is an exciting, exploratory game for participants of all generations, especially children and young people.

Solving tasks together during the game is a suitable team-building activity for work and interest groups.

The game is suitable for a team of 2-6 people; the optimal duration of the game is 1 hour.

Orienteering game “Hello, Neighbour!”

Orienteering game in Jaunmoku Palace Park, looking for answers to interesting and sometimes catchy questions! Through them, you will get to know the surroundings of Jaunmoku Palace and the history of the Palace from a different angle.

The game is available from April to October. Suitable for families and primary school children.

Expedition in the forest exposition

Unusual research tasks, engaging practical work and an interesting narrative allows families and small groups to explore the diverse forest kingdom. The expedition is designed as a cycle of programmes, in which each of them will get to know one part of the forest – plants, mushrooms and inhabitants.

Two expeditions are available. The first or Expedition No. 1 is about trees, the Second or Expedition No. 2 is about the fur of the animals.

MammaDaba in the Forest Museum

Excursion for pupils “MammaDaba” is suitable for children of different school ages – pupils learn about nature and processes by actively participating in them. During the excursion, children get to know Jaunmoku Palace and the most important events during its existence, and take a walk in the Palace park. The programme is complemented by exciting assignments in science, geography, and maths.

When booking this excursion, it is necessary to purchase the services of a guide.

Herbal tea tasting

We drink a variety of drinks every day, but not all of them are healthy. We often forget about the wonderful alternative that nature gives us – herbal teas.

During the herbal tea tasting, you will taste different types of teas gathered in the Palace garden and its territory. By sipping goutweed root, nettle, lady’s mantle, birch leaves and many other teas, you will also learn about their healing power. You will be able to taste and try to guess various delicious medicinal syrups.

Tasting is only possible when accompanied by a museum employee.

Party with Forest pixies

You are invited to the party by the Forest Museum pixies at Jaunmoku Palace. Each of them controls a part of the Forest Kingdom – lichens, trees, mushrooms, berries, birds, animals or flowers. Each has its own wisdom, abilities, whims and ways. You will have the opportunity to meet at least two of them each time. Forest pixies take guests on a fabulous adventure trip, where they dance, play, transform, teach the wisdom of the Forest, and invite you to learn new skills. Everyone can make a gift to remember the visit to the Forest pixies.

QR codes in the park

In the territory of the Palace there are 15 QR codes, with the help of which visitors can independently get acquainted with various objects of the park – Imants Ziedonis’ great oak, memorial place for victims of the Second World War, rhododendron garden and others. Each of them also includes an interesting task. QR codes are available in 4 languages – Latvian, Russian, English and Lithuanian.

We invite you to come and enjoy a peaceful walk in the park of Jaunmoku Palace, and by using the QR codes – you will learn new things!

Exhibition “Park Improvement Plans”

The exhibition is located in the park of Jaunmoku Palace and is open for daily visits. It allows you to look at the improvement plans of some natural objects, recreation places and parks in the territory of Saldus, Kuldīga, Talsi forest industry farms, which are in the collection of Jaunmoku Palace Museum. At the same time, the exhibition is an encouragement to Kurzeme travellers to explore new sights and routes.

Cycling trip

Fresh air, closeness to nature and new positive emotions when going on a short bike ride. To make the trip richer, 2 cycling routes have been developed from Jaunmokas to Vecmokas and Tukums, with guide services also offered. In addition, we offer guide services and picnic baskets filled with the delicacies of the restaurant.

Starting from 01.06, bicycle rental is available daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by special arrangement and at an additional cost outside working hours.

Fishing with ancient fishing rods in the Palace pond

Fishing is associated with a wonderful time passing by the water, enjoying the surrounding nature and chirping of birds. At the same time, it is very special – when using fishing tools from the past (hazel rods, feathers, cork floats, etc.) one can think back to the olden days. The most devoted fishermen can make fish soup from their catch right on the fire in the picnic area of Jaunmoku Palace Park.

Orienteering game “Tracker”

During the game you will act as the hunter and follow the trail, trying to find answers to 9 interesting and sometimes tricky questions in the Palace park. Through them it is possible to get to know the Palace, its surroundings and history from a different angle. The game is interesting, as find the secret and get to the next question, you have to solve the previous task correctly.

The game is available from April to October. Suitable for families with children and pupils from 10 years of age.

In the warm months of the year, we offer you to rent a rowing boat for a leisurely and beautiful trip across the pond of Jaunmoku Palace, while enjoying the architecture of the Palace.

Forest croquet

An exciting game for the whole family! The essence of the game is to move your ball through a certain combination of gates from the start to the finish line with as few strokes of the wooden hammer as possible. You can receive the equipment for the game at the Palace information centre!

Forest chess

A large-format chessboard is created in the Palace park with chess pieces made of wood in the shape of Latvian animals. Children will also enjoy the game, as the figures include animals such as a mole (pawn), a boar (tower), a hare (horse), a wolf (bishop), a fox (queen) and a bear (king).

Snow slippers

When the land is covered with snow, you start craving a walk in the park of Jaunmoku Palace. To make the walk more interesting and “easier”, we offer snow slippers for rent (they can be attached to the boots, and increase the foot area, allowing you to walk on the upper snow without sinking like when walking in casual shoes).
