Old tiled stove
Entering through the main entrance of the Palace, you can see the biggest pride of the Palace – a unique tiled stove made in the beginning of the 20th century, created from 130 tiles, painted with 50 different views of Riga and Jūrmala. It was a gift to George Armitstead, the former Mayor of the city, on the 700th anniversary of Riga.
Halls and rooms of the Palace
White Hall features large windows and an exit to the veranda, a white fireplace and a piano, providing a romantic feeling. During the Soviet era, it was used for the needs of the People’s House and the cinema. Today, it has regained its original appearance, and newly-weds are invited to the first waltz in this Hall.
The Forest Museum invites you to enjoy the magic of the forest and see various expositions in an interactive way, which tell visitors about the wildlife of Latvian forests – tree species, animals and processes of nature. In the exposition it is possible to see stuffed animals, get to know the voices of animals and birds, feel samples of fur and recognise the footprints of animals, learn about bird hatching, and understand the meaning of the hunting process.
Using the Overly application, it is possible to watch documentary footage about forest management in the middle of the 20th century.
Open collection exhibition
The exhibition of large objects “Horse-pulled Forest tools in open collection” is available in the farm building of the complex. It complements the “Forest Management” exhibition on the 2nd floor of the palace, providing a broader view of forest management processes in the 20th century.
It displays objects from the collections of the Jaunmoku Museum and cooperation partners, such as forest ploughs, harrows, hunting trophy horns, etc.
The open collection exhibition can be viewed during the museum’s public educational events, by arranging a guided tour with the museum, as well as by schoolchildren as a part of the museum’s educational programme “mammmadaba”.
In addition to the viewing, visitors can watch demonstrations of forestry work, such as tree planting and timber sawing, and have the opportunity to try it out for themselves.
Cultural history and art exhibitions
You will need to take a few dozen steps to climb the approximately 20-metre-high Palace tower, which offers a spacious view of the surroundings of Jaunmokas. To make climbing more attractive, there are exhibitions on hunting topics in the tower.
It is hard to believe, but the Palace has not always been properly managed and aristocratic. During the Soviet era, when 20 families lived in the Palace, the building was converted beyond recognition and was on the verge of collapse. However, it is possible to find out how the Palace transformed from Sleeping Beauty into a Princess in the exposition about the restoration and development of the Jaunmoku Palace complex from 1974 to the present day.
